The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has issued the notification, for the recruitment of Probationary officer. Now from 2015 onwards, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has changed the exam pattern of Probationary Officer exam.  As per the IBPS PO 2015 notification, new pattern will have two tier examinations; Preliminary & Main exam.
Many of you have applied and will apply for this exam. A candidate should know the pattern and syllabus of the exam, to qualify and to score good marks. So in order to help in your preparation, we are presenting you the detail pattern and syllabus of the SBI PO Tier II Main exam.

IBPS Selection process consists of three phases:


  1. Phase I: Main Exam - Objective test - 100 Marks (Total time - 1 hr)
  2. Phase II: Main Exam - Objective test + Descriptive test
  3. Phase - III: Group Discussion (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)

Now let's discuss the pattern & syllabus of the IBPS PO Main (Tier – II) Exam -


Phase-II: Mains Examination: The exam will consists of Objective Tests for 200 marks and of 2 hour duration consisting of 5 sections as follows:

1. English Language   -       40 Qs     50 marks

2. General Awareness, Banking - 40 Qs     50 marks

3. Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation  -      50 Qs     50 marks

4. Reasoning (High Level) -                   50 Qs     50 marks

5. Computer:                            20 Qs     20 marks

Note: Candidates have to qualify in each section by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank.

I. Reasoning (High Level): In Reasoning section questions are asked from different topics which are as follows:

  2. Seating Arrangement - Circular table and Line (North & South)
  3. Puzzle
  4. Blood Relation
  5. Inequality or Decision Making
  6. Data Sufficiency
  7. Logical Reasoning

II. Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation: In Quant section questions are asked from different topics which are as follows:

  1. Tables
  2. Pie - Charts
  3. Data Analysis
  4. Line Graphs
  5. Number Series
  6. Simplification
  7. Average
  8. Profit & Loss
  9. Time & Work
  10. Time & Distance
  11. Partnership
  12. Ratio & Proportion
  13. Problem on Ages

III. English Language: In English Language section questions are asked from different topics which are as follows:
Level of Difficulty - Moderate

  1. Reading Comprehension
  2. Spotting Error
  3. Fill in the blank
  4. Cloze test
  5. Para-Jumbles

IV. General Awareness / Banking / Computer: In this section questions are asked from different topics which are occurred in last three or four months.
Level of Difficulty – Moderate

  1. News related to Reserve Bank of India
  2. Banking Awareness
  3. Financial Awareness (Union Budget/ Railway Budget)
  4. Economics news
  5. Current Affairs - Questions can be asked from various fields such as: National, International, Awards, Sports, Defence, Summits, Appointment, Books & Authors and Obituary etc.

V. Computer Knowledge: In computer questions are asked from different topics which are as follows:
Level of Difficulty – Easy

  1. Basic of Computer
  2. MS Word
  3. MS Excel
  4. Power Point
  5. Generation of Computer
  6. Internet, etc

Note: For each wrong answers, there will be a negative marking of 1/4 marks in both Main and main examination.


Final Selection: The marks obtained in the Main Examination (Phase-II) will be added to the marks obtained in Interview (Phase-III) for preparation of the final allotment.
