RRB ASM & Goods Guard Exam pattern

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) had issued Railway ASM and Goods Guard Recruitment against CEN 03/2015 during December to January 2016.  Railway is going to conduct Online examination for the first time for ASM, Goods Guard, Sr Clerk, TA & CA posts. Tentative dates/ slot of Common Computer Based Test/ Examination will be held between March to May 2016.
Online examination for ASM and Goods Guard posts in Indian Railway will be held on each Saturday and Sunday of March and May 2016. Candidates who have applied or will apply for RRB CEN 03/2015 posts must check Railway ASM, Goods Guard exam pattern details.

This is first time, Railway will conduct Common CBT (Computer Based Test) for all the above mentioned posts followed by qualifying Skill/ Typing Test or Aptitude Test, wherever applicable and Document Verification. Common CBT (Examination) is scheduled to be held on the same day(s) by all participating Railway Recruitment Board (RRBs) tentatively during March-May, 2016.

RRB CEN 03/2015: Stages of Examination:

Stage-I: Online Examination

There will be Common Single Stage CBT (Computer Based Test) for all posts.

Stage-II: Document Verification

Verification of Documents for Commercial Apprentice (CA), Traffic Apprentice (TA), Enquiry/ Reservation Clerk (ECRC), and Goods Guard posts.  

Stage-III: Typing Skill Test

There will be Skill Test (Typing) of qualifying nature followed by verification of documents for Jr. Accounts Asst, Sr. Clerk, Sr. Time Keeper posts.

Stage-IV: Aptitude Test
Aptitude Test followed by document verification for ASM and TA posts.

Railway ASM/ Goods Guard Exam Details – Subjects, Full Marks, Time


Railway ASM and Goods Guard Online exam Question papers shall be of Objective Multiple Choice Type. The question paper will be in English, Hindi, Urdu and local languages. The standard of questions for Single Stage CBT (Computer Based Test) will be in conformity with the educational standards as per the posts.

Question Type: The Question will be of Objective Type with multiple choice and are likely to include questions pertaining to General awareness, Arithmetic, General Intelligence and Reasoning. The Question Paper for CBT will be of 90 minutes duration for 100 questions.

The Railway ASM and Goods Guard exam will consist of Objective type (Multiple Type Question) as shown below. The question paper will be in Hindi, English & Urdu etc.

Marking Scheme: There will be negative marking in CBT (Computer Based Test)/ Online Examination and marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer @ 1/3 of the marks for allotted each question. In other words there shall be negative marking of 0.33 marks for each wrong answer while candidates will get 1 full mark for each correct answer.

  • Total Question: 100 (Objective Type)
  • Full Marks: 100
  • Section: 4 Section/ Paper
  • Total Time Duration: 1.5 Hours (90 Minutes)
  • Negative Marking: 0.33 Marks for each wrong answer.
