The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has decided to increase upper age limit for selected (High paying) post by three years for General candidates. For remaining posts, SSC to continue with the old system (Eligibility Criteria and Syllabus) once again. SSC CGL 2017 Age Limit & Educational Qualifications

Good news for over age candidates, Age relaxation for SSC CGL 2017 increased by 3 years for all categories candidates; General candidates can write SSC CGL exams upto 30 years.

SSC CGL Age Limitations: 

Earlier, in SSC-CGL exam, the age limit for general category was 27 years. Now for selected (High paying) post, Government has increased it to 30 years. (and subsequently, OBC, SC, ST age limits also raised by three years, since their formula is tied with the age limit of general category.)

# Rest of the posts of grade Pay 2400 and 2800 will have age limit as 18-27 years. 
There is age relaxation of 3 year for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ ST category candidates. No change in their age limit criteria.

Note: Age will be counted on 1 Aug 2017 for CGL exam 2017.

SSC CGL Educational Qualification:

Educational qualification for SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL 2017) exam is given below. Candidates must possess the following qualifications.

1For Assistant Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

2For SI in CBI Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

3For Inspector (Central Excise, Preventive Officer, Examiner) Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

4For Inspector of Income Tax/ AEO in DoE Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

5For Inspector of Posts/ Divisional Accountant Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

6For Auditor/ Accountant/ Junior Accountant Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

7For Compiler Posts: Bachelors Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or Elective subject.

8For Tax Assistant/ UDC Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University.

9For Statistical Investigator Posts: Candidates must possess Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics as one of the main subjects or Bachelor’s Degree with Mathematics with Statistics as a papers studied in one year year/two years/all three years as the case may be) as one of the main subjects or Bachelor’s Degree with Economics ( with Statistics as a paper studied in one year/two years/all the three years as the case may be) as one of the main subjects or Bachelor’s Degree with Commerce (with Statistics as a paper studied in one year/two years/all the three years as the case may be) as one of the main subjects.

SSC CGL 2017 Eligibility Faq


Q. I am in the last year/ semester of College? Am I eligible?

Answer: No. You are not eligible for SSC CGL 2017. Candidates who have not completed their graduation on or before 1st January 2017 can’t apply for this exam. The candidates who don’t have Bachelor’s Degree and still applying for SSC CGL 2017, they will be rejected at document verification stage.  In simple word, candidates are not eligible for SSC Combined Graduate Level examination unless and until they complete Graduation.

Q. I have completed Graduate from a Distance Educational University. Is it valid or can I apply for SSC CGL Exam?

Answer: Yes. Distance Educational University is eligible for SSC CGL. If you have done your Graduation from any Distance Educational University recognized by Distance Education Council, such as IGNOU, you are eligible.
